In the wake of the Rebellion, crime was simply commonplace. For a long time, it was simply chaos and discord. Looting, rioting, random acts of violence; the city was full of it. However, nearly 12 years after the rebellion, one young man, only 20 years old at the time, decided he would end the chaos. However, unlike most who tried before him, rather than to try and remove the crime itself; he wanted to control it, to control it. As such, at the hands of Akumichi Senkai, the Senkai crime family was born. His plan was clear, rather than end the crime in the city; he would organize it and use it to his benefit.
Akumichi, commonly called Akuma by those close to him, took on the title of the ‘Demon in the Shadows’ and began to go about the city and force the criminals to submit to him. Those who wouldn’t bow to his authority paid dearly, but never with their lives. He would often leave them crippled or maimed; left to suffer for defying him. After the first few who attempted to, no one else defied him. It wasn’t long until the Senkai family had a stranglehold on most of Republic City. All of it was under the mantle of Akuma. It wasn’t long until he began to stretch the hands of the organization to the outlying regions.
He first began to make footholds in the other United Republic cities and eventually expanded to many of the city-states in the Earth Republic. As his reach extended further and further, he began to realize he had expanded too quickly. Having a hard time controlling all the territory he held, he also had problems controlling the factions within the family back at home. Some of his lieutenants began to break off and create smaller crime families to rival the Senkai.
Deeming Republic city much more important, Akuma relinquished control of many of his territories in the Earth Republic. Many of them broke apart and fell without his hand guiding them while some were seeded and bore their own crime organizations separate from the Senkai family. Back in Republic City, Akuma spent most of the last ten years of his life reigning in the fractured pieces of his family that broke away. He, eventually, was able to end the factions warring against him and bring them back under his control. Unfortunately, this was rather late in his life and he was only able to see the reformed state of the family for but a few years.
Upon his death, attributed to old age, at 87 years old, the family would have normally been handed off to Akuma’s only son Takuichi, referred to as Taku, but he was killed only 5 years before Akuma’s death at the age of fifty. As such, the leadership of the family was given to Taku’s youngest son as his older brother, Hisaoichi, was not fit to lead, Matsuichi, referred to as Matsu. At the age of 25, Matsu took on the role of leading the Senkai family and still leads it to this day. However, Matsu, now at the age of 47, suffers from an illness called the Vine Plague which is contracted from Spirit Vines and has no known cure.
With the decaying life of Matsu, the family begins to fight amongst itself as they do not hold any value in those who would replace the reign of Matsu. Matsu had only three children, two from his wife Sakurai; Katsuichi and Shiori, and a bastard child named Haruichi. Unfortunately, the rightful heir to Matsu, Katsu died in a raid from the Syndicate. This left only Shiori, a woman and Haruichi, the bastard left. Needless to say, the family was not pleased with their options. As such, many of the Lieutenants have begun to fight for power within the family.
