|Fate is weird thing. Fate allowed my grandfather to amass a great amount of power and influence in this city. Fate allowed me to take the leadership role in this family in front of my brother simply because he is a cripple. Fate gave me two beautiful children, a boy and a girl. Fate is also the thing that took my son from me. Funny enough, fate gave me another son, albeit in a way one would not expect. Fate is a weird thing.
I am Matsuichi Senkai, leader of the Senkai Crime family. Since the time of my grandfather, we have held a considerable sway on the goings on in Republic City and the outlying areas around it. Some fear us, some respect us, and some others even strive to join us. However, working your way into the family is much harder than being born into it. I was lucky that way. Both my brother and I were born into the family. Normally, tradition would dictate that he would inherit everything that I now have, but fate intervened. He was born with a physical ailment that left him crippled as an infant. As such, the family did not see him as worthy of taking the place of my grandfather.
Of course, my father should have been the second leader of this family, but he died just a few years before my grandfather did and sadly was never able to take this place of power. From a young age he taught me to be strong, to be a stalwart and immovable wall and not let the other factions of the family influence my decisions. As such, I am my own man and I take pride in all the choices I’ve made. Around the age of twenty, I met a woman named Sakurai and married here soon after. Within the year our first born, Katsuichi, was born. He was a strong boy and a perfect example of what the family wanted. Just a few years later his sister, Shiori, was born as well.
The two of them grew up very close together as we didn’t really allow them to go out much; especially after the murder of their mother. When Katsu was eight and his sister five, in spite of me, a member of the family murdered their mother. He was displeased with income he gained on a job I gave him. Needless to say, his death was not pleasant for him. I made sure he suffered for days. I personally flayed his flesh from his body and enjoyed it immensely. After Sakurai’s murder, I became very protective of our two children. I became closed off and rarely let them leave.
Over the years, they became very close and I withered in loneliness. That is, until I fell in love with Mika. Mika was a maid in my house and as such was really the only woman I saw much of that wasn’t a part of the family. I found myself in love with her quite suddenly and she ended up pregnant. She bore a son and I named him Haruichi. I kept him hidden for some time but eventually the rest of the family found out. Much like his half siblings, the rest of the family did not like him or his mother. While he was of my lineage and therefore safe; Mika was not and I sent her away fearing for her life. To this day, I miss her very much.
Over the years, as the three of them grew. I began to involve Katsu more and more in the dealings of the family. He became my most trusted Lieutenant. I continued to try and protect his sister and half-brother by not involving them in anything. If only I had done the same for Katsu. When he was about twenty-two, I had him handle a very important shipment deal. We were double crossed. They found him and his men on the ground with their throats slit. I was thoroughly enraged but it only exacerbated my condition.
I had just recently contracted the Vine Plague, an ironic outcome from my drug use of Spirit Vine Nectar. That was a year ago. Shiori, now twenty is, to my chagrin, handling most of the dealing for the family as I am unable to do so. Haru, who I continued to keep kept away for most of his life, is beginning to take on jobs for the family. I fear I will not live much longer nor will I see them get older. I am also concerned with what will happen to the family. Katsu was the perfect person to leave everything to; but with his death, the only two in line are a woman and my bastard, neither of which the family would respect. This may be the end of the Senkai family.
