Calm, collected, and reserved, Mr Li is polite almost to a fault, but also excessively cold. He rarely shows emotion beyond mild satisfaction or disgust, and remains consistently professional. He also exhibits traits common to Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, often moving to correct asymmetry, chaos, or other disorder before tackling other matters, no matter how pressing. However, he does have a soft spot for children. Li adheres to a strict personal code and philosophy.

World View

Mr Li believes that there is a natural order inherent to all things, and that all things therefore strive toward this order so that 'heaven and earth' (his words for the spirit and real worlds) may be aligned in harmony. Thus, each and every person has an inner potential or destiny that can be realized by undergoing some trial or struggle that culminates in a moment of reckoning. For Li this struggle was the war and then the murder of his former employer. Not everyone is aware of their destiny or place in the world, and the world is fraught by 'agents of chaos' which act to offset the world's alignment, and so Li sees himself as an agent of order in response. At the same time, he believes that he cannot determine someone's harmonious destiny, and also that his spreading of the word could disrupt an otherwise natural process. As such, he constrains his actions to the elimination of 'chaos agents' wherever they might be, and work as an enforcer for a criminal group serves as an effective way for him to do so without attracting undue attention. Of course, Mr Li is quite insane, but predictably so, provided that he doesn't arbitrarily decide that someone needs to be killed.

Private History

Mr Li, whose current title is almost certainly a pseudonym, began life as the eldest son of a family of Earth Nation airbenders who traced their abilities back to the time of Avatar Korra and the re-emergence of spirits into the world. The province in which they lived had not changed significantly since that time, and without great importance to anyone in particular it had felt the ravages of time more keenly than most. As their home crumbled around them, Li and his younger brother struck out into the wide world; determined to find their luck, or if need be, make it for themselves. Luck did not favor them, however, and it was precisely at this time that a simmering dispute between two regions of the Earth Republic finally erupted into all out war. So poor were these provinces, and so far from anywhere of consequence, that the conflict raged unabated for years. As two unemployed young men, Li and his brother soon found themselves serving at the front of the fighting, and by its end only one emerged from the ordeal. When he heard of his brothers' death, caused by a hopeless charge against a fortified enemy position, Li swore vengeance. Yet, he had nowhere to go, and as with all wars the veterans of this one were soon cast aside and forced to fend for themselves.

By chance, his former commanding officer heard of Li's trouble, and although he found him a little odd, decided that his manner and diligence could suit his purposes. The officer offered his old comrade a position as a manservant in his household, promising to provide for him and his kin indefinitely. With nowhere else to turn, Li accepted the offer, and spent nearly twenty years in that capacity, gratefully working for the man who had essentially given him a new life. For the first time he became proud of his work, a professional, and the trauma of war began to fade from his life. As with any military man, the officer had enemies, and Mr Li saw to it that they were unable to threaten or otherwise trouble his employer. After some time the officer even taught him how to write, as he had never had a real education, and soon Li was reading all manner of books, and even corresponding with others who had shared his experiences on the battlefield. As much as this opened doors for Mr Li, it also closed perhaps the biggest of them, and within twenty four hours of one particular letter arriving, the officer was dead and his murderer on the way to Republic City. No one suspected the butler, and now Mr Li is looking for work wherever he can find it.
