Taru takes a lot after his parents, respectively. Like his father, he is timid, somewhat withdrawn, and prefers to be alone, but he does enjoy another's company. Like his mother, he is kind and caring, sympathetic towards others even if it can't be helped.


Hotaru was born to one Hinto and Morei, a modest couple living a suburb-type of life in the Earth Republic. They made their living due Hinto's great success as an inventor/machine-repair man. He could fix just about anything, for modest prices, and was always coming up with some invention he thought up the night before. It was quiet, yet eventful little life for them and Hotaru was the final piece to their puzzle.

Like his parents, Hotaru was born a nonbender, but he did inherit his father's inventive talents. One couldn't imagine that an eight-year-old built his own working miniature satomobile. And yet, stranger things have happened. A couple years later, when Hotaru was about Hinto was given a business opportunity to work for Cabbage Corps all the way in Republic City. At first, he was a little reluctant, not wanting to leave his family by themselves, but it was Morei that convinced him to take the opportunity, saying that it would better for the three of them. However, this would be the last time he ever saw his wife again.

About a year after, Morei quickly fell ill to an unknown virus and it was up to Hotaru to care for her while his father was away. Despite his age, he landed a job in a repair shop fixing up whatever people brought that didn't do something right. His skills managed to get him paid easily, but it still wasn't enough to heal his mother. She had good a run for two years before she passed peacefully.

Initial Abilities
  • Explosive Crafting (Passive)

The user is knowledgeable in the construction and usage of assorted types of explosives. These explosives can range from simple smoke grenades or even detonate-able satchel charges. NOTE: These weapons are illegal to use.

  • Smithing and Engineering (Passive)

The user is knowledgeable in crafting weapons, armors and even basic machinery made of metal and even basic composite materials. Metal is more durable but heavy and cumbersome while composites are lighter but more vulnerable.

  • Adhesive Foam (Exclusive to Combat Engineer)

The user is able to carry a small canister of foam that quickly expands, being made of very sticky and tenacious materials, it provides an easy way to entangle and restrict foes.

  • Electrified Weaponry (Passive; Exclusive to Combat Engineer)

The user has and is knowledgeable on how to use assorted electrified weaponry which can shock and even incapacitate people struck with it. (This includes things such as bolas, Kali sticks, bo staffs, etc) NOTE: These weapons are illegal to use.
